Our research is always aimed at specific practical goals, an approach known as applied research. Specifically, this means that through advising, analyses, and development of technology, we enable the Armed Forced and civil society institutions to protect our country in new and more effective ways.
Contract research
FFI’s research activity is externally funded. Our main contracting authority is the Armed Forces and the defence sector, but we also solve many big and small assignments for others.
FFI provides advising
We provide a wide range of research-based advice and recommendations to the defence sector, public and private actors.
Analysis
FFI conducts a wide range of analyses regarding the Armed Forces’ tasks, structure and finances, as well as laboratory analyses, simulation and modelling.
Arctic Warrior Experiment (AWE)
Organised by FFI and the Armed Forces Special Operations Command, AWE intends to challenge the industry to develop equipment for winter warfighters in an Arctic environment.
