Alf Christian Hennum Bård Eggereide
The Chief of Defence has pointed out that there is a gap between operational needs and possible flight hour (FH) production for the NH90 helicopter. His statement is based on assumptions that the operational need is 5 400 FH and the possible production of FH is 2 100. These assumptions are highly uncertain. The purpose of this study is to establish a decision base for the level of ambition for FH production for the NH90, both for the Navy and the Coast Guard. To establish this basis, FFI has arranged workshops with the Navy and the Coast Guard to map the operational capability as a function of flight hour production. The realism of the FH production has been controlled by simulation of helicopter availability. In this simulation we have also optimized the maintenance organization and spare parts availability. The results from the simulations showed that under certain conditions, there will be possible to produce 5 400 FH. These conditions are, among others, good spare parts availability, enough maintenance frames and large enough maintenance organization.
