Production of TADFIW (2,6,8,12-tetraacetyl-4,10-diformyl-2,4,6,8,10,12- hexaazaisowurtzitane) has been performed by hydrogenation of TADBIW(2,6,8,12- tetraacetyl-4,10-dibenzyl-2,4,6,8,10,12-hexaazaisowurtzitane) in Formic acid by use of Palladium catalyst 5-10% Pd on activated carbon water wet (53% water), E 101 NE/W 10%, from Degussa. Different methods for production of TADFIW have been studied, of which the most efficient is use of not isolated TADBIW from step two in the synthesis of CL-20. In stead of separating TADBIW from the catalyst in step two by extraction with chloroform the solid material after filtration was added ethanol, stirred and filtered to remove material that poisoned the catalyst. Use of this purified material directly without separation of TADBIW, catalyst and other solid gave high and stable yield of TADFIW with high purity.
