In Norway noise from military installations must not exceed limits set in law. Norwegian
Defence Estates Agency is responsible for planing installations to accomplish this. One
tool is to be able to calculate noise maps around installations. Such maps are made with the
software package Milstøy. As input Milstøy use noise emission data close to the weapon,
10 m for ri es. New emission data must be acquired continuously as new weapons are
purchased.
This report gives emission data for HK416 and HK417 which has recently been purchased
by the Norwegian Defence. Temporary emission data are given. Later de nitive emission
date will be given in another report.
It is seen that the noise level from HK416 is comparable to C8, while the noise level from
HK417 is comparable to AG3. This seems to imply that the new main ri e in Norway
(HK416) makes about 2 dB less noise than the old one (AG3). This may be important for
ring ranges located close to neighbours. However, this can not be con rmed before the
de nitive emission date are given.
