A number of codes, both commercial and non-commercial, are used in the numerical simulations.

CDP is a collection of codes from Cascade Tehnologies. The company is a spin-off of the Center for Turbulence Research at Stanford University and produces codes for compressible or incompressible turbulent flow with Large Eddy Simulation (LES) modelling. Combustion, mixing, reacting flows, particle transport, and aero-acoustics can be simulated by these codes.  The codes from Cascade Technologies are licensed.

ANSYS Fluent

ANSYS Fluent is Commercial code from Ansys Inc., that covers a wide range of fluid dynamics applications and models. In the Applied Fluid Mechancs group at FFI, Fluent is primarily used for Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) simulations of turbulent flow, or for laminar flow simulations.

Nek5000 is an open source Spectral Element code for the Navier-Stokes equations, with the core of development at Argonne National Laboratory. The spectral element method is a highly accurate and memory-efficient method for the solution of partial differential equations, and is particularly well suited to large-scale simulations on parallel computer systems. The strength of the method is in Direct Numerical Simulations and highly accurate LES.

MSC Nastran

MSC Nastran is commercial code from MSC Software for structural analysis of static, dynamic, and thermal phenomena. The primary numerical method is Finite Elements.
