Test and development of SAFEgaiter® - a low-burden respiratory protection equipment for military use

This report summarizes the development stages of the SAFEgaiter®, a low-burden respiratory protection equipment, developed in a collaborative effort between Watchbird®, a Norwegian medical technology company, the Norwegian Defense Research Establishment (FFI), and the Norwegian Armed Forces. SAFEgaiter® was developed to protect against inhalation of low threat level, low-concentration airborne pollutants generated during relevant military activities, while providing minimized physiological burden and full integration with the head gear used by the war fighters. SAFEgaiter® has been tested and evaluated in laboratory tests and in the field trials, to ensure its compatibility with military equipment and tasks in various scenarios, while providing sufficient level of respiratory protection for the military personnel.
