Bioavailability is an important issue in ecotoxicological risk assessment of contaminated areas. The bioavailable fraction is highly correlated with the solved level of reactive metal (ions). While organic ligands are important for mobility of heavy metals, they make them less bioavailable by binding the fraction of reactive metals.
